Detecting objects in European airspace

In March of 2026, Do IoT Fieldlab and MCS supported the startup Vydar at Unmanned Valley with wireless connectivity. At the same time and place, a familiar name, Drocean, carried out coordinated flight patterns with various drones as targets. Why? To test Vydars distributed sensor system designed to detect drones in our airspace from a great distance. Unlike traditional, bulky, and expensive systems, Vydars system uses multiple smaller sensors connected via 5G, making detection more scalable and cost-effective. The ambition is clear: a European alternative that reduces reliance on non-EU technologies.
Unmanned Valley once again proved the perfect test site: on-site setup, our own 5G network, and controlled drone flights make it a unique facility for this kind of work.
The first steps have been taken, but reliable wireless data collection still needs testing. Something we’ll continue exploring with Vydar. Keep an eye on our website or LinkedIn to stay updated!
