Unmanned Valley is a field lab for sensor-related technologies and applications. It is the ideal place for startups, scale-ups, established companies, knowledge institutions and governments to research, develop and test drones and other sensor-based innovations. Unmanned Valley aims to bring together know-how from across the value chain and help others to accelerate innovation in unmanned technology, autonomous systems and sensors, to grow and to lead the way in European industry. In time, Unmanned Valley must develop into a breeding ground for high-tech industry.
Unmanned Valley is unique in the Netherlands. It’s airspace can be used continuously and flexibly and a corridor to sea will soon make BVLOS flying possible (above land and sea). Located at the former Valkenburg naval air base, the field lab is located in the heart of the area with companies and knowledge institutions that make the UAV industry. With Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and Rotterdam The Hague Airport around the corner, Unmanned Valley is easily accessible for international visitors and companies.
Drones and other sensor-based systems are already being used for applications that were a thing of the future only a few years ago. Because of the continued development and integration of robotization, artificial intelligence, big data, machine learning and the IoT, the number of useful applications is growing rapidly. The economic and social potential of the industry for the Netherlands is enormous. To take full advantage of this, it is important that players across the value chain work together and ensure cross-pollination. So it’s only logical that Unmanned Valley and Do IoT join forces and help startups, scale-ups and others to innovate faster.
Unmanned Valley is an initiative of Delft University of Technology and the municipality of Katwijk, and is made possible by the Dutch central and regional government as well as the EU’s European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
