Innovation hub for robotics, AI, data, and digitalization

The development of new technology requires environments where researchers, knowledge institutions, and companies can experiment, test, and collaborate. For this reason, various fieldlabs have been gathering since January 2025 at a physical meeting place on the TU Delft Campus: the House for Robotics and AI, Data and Digitalisation, located at Molengraaffsingel 29.

Within the project

As part of the “Innovation Hub TU Delft” project, investments are being made in and around this location to further develop and expand innovation capabilities in the fields of robotics, AI, and wireless connectivity (5G and Beyond 5G). At the same time, we are strengthening connections with other test sites, enabling new technologies to be tested across multiple locations and infrastructures.

Connecting Unmanned Valley to the national research network

At Unmanned Valley, Do IoT Fieldlab is strengthening the network infrastructure by upgrading the fiber-optic connection and establishing a connection with partner SURF. This makes the test site more future-proof and better integrated into the national research network of SURF and Future Network Services (FNS). The enhanced network connection enables higher data speeds, large-scale data applications, and real-time experiments. In addition, researchers and companies can conduct experiments linking different locations, such as Unmanned Valley and the TU Delft Campus, thereby creating new opportunities for testing wireless technology under realistic conditions.

Expand with satellite communication

On the TU Delft Campus, Do IoT Fieldlab is expanding the existing test infrastructure with satellite communication technology. This allows different wireless technologies, such as 5G, WiFi and satellite communications, to be compared under controlled and realistic conditions. We investigate, among other things, differences in speed, latency, jitter and packet loss and identify which technology best suits different applications and circumstances. The results help researchers and organisations to make better-informed choices about the use of wireless communication technology.

Towards a connected and future-proof test environment

Strengthening and interconnecting the infrastructure at both the TU Delft Campus and Unmanned Valley creates a flexible, future-proof test environment. Researchers and companies can not only test technologies in isolation but also conduct experiments spanning multiple locations and networks. In doing so, we enhance the innovation capacity of the Do IoT Fieldlab and lay a solid foundation for new experiments involving 5G, Beyond 5G, and future hybrid communication systems.

Let's innovate together!
