5G’s impact on bumblebees
In April, the National Bee Count took place in the Netherlands: a timely reminder of the increasing pressure on bee populations.

These animals play an essential role in our ecosystem and food production, making it even more important to better understand these pollinators. Especially in a time when wireless technology is becoming increasingly central .
Together with The Hague University of Applied Sciences and partners such as Tomatoworld, MCS Benelux, and Koppert, Do IoT Fieldlab is developing a smart monitoring system to track the activity and behavior of bumblebees in greenhouses when exposed to electromagnetic fields (EMF) from private 5G networks .
What started in 2024 as a single, experimental bumblebee counter has grown into a much more advanced system featuring, among other things, infrared sensors, wireless data transmission, and specialized cameras to capture movement and the environment in greater detail. This forms the basis for controlled experiments that will take place in the remainder of 2026.
Important experiments for important matters.
