Recently, Do IoT Fieldlab installed a Beyond 5G network at SAM XL, making it one of the test facilities within the National 6G Testbed. Since then, new experiments have become possible. Experiments that simply weren’t possible before.
Take a look at the video below to see one example. Expert Antoine Dunand (SAM XL) explains how Beyond 5G has elevated a robotic dog to a device that detects and reacts to dangerous situations.
And there’s more to come. Do IoT Fieldlab, SAM XL, and Provincie Zuid-Holland are currently developing the Wireless Factory of the Future, a new project exploring how wireless communication can make factories more flexible, connected and intelligent. Due to the increasing shortage of technically skilled personnel, production processes need to be more efficient and more intelligent. The Dutch manufacturing ecosystem needs radical transformation to stay competitive. From manual work to smart, autonomous and connected production.

Insects in your greenhouse that don’t help your plants grow, but actually cause damage. This well-known issue in the greenhouse horticulture sector, is what the company PATS wants to address. In 2024, PATS decided to monitor insects in a working greenhouse and to target them specifically (together with Do IoT Fieldlab, TNO, MCS, Tomatoworld, and RoboHouse). That was the initial goal of the project. Two years later, we look back at this practical experiment, as part of the “Do IoT in greenhouse horticulture project”. How did they proceed, and were the goals achieved?

How can you best map network coverage above the North Sea? That’s the key question driving the work of start-up Drocean. They are working on a coverage map using professional drones. Over the past few months, they have been able to validate and further refine their concept with support from Do IoT Fieldlab. The outcome? They are now ready to create the coverage map.
Experimenting with satellite connectivity: a long-cherished wish that has finally become reality. We recently installed a Starlink dish at our facility, opening the door to new research and exploration. It allows us to investigate application performance, reliability and data routing.
