Inspection robots in a wireless factory
Our latest Beyond 5G installation at SAM XL opens up new possibilities for testing robotics in a realistic industrial environment.

Our latest Beyond 5G installation at SAM XL opens up new possibilities for testing robotics in a realistic industrial environment.

One example is a mobile robot inspecting panels for defects, demonstrated in the video down below by expert Nitish Kumar (SAM XL). As the robot moves over a panel, it captures high-resolution images and sends this data over the Beyond 5G network for real-time analysis. This means defects can potentially be detected faster.
“Since the robot moves around the manufacturing site to inspect parts, a wired connection is impractical. Motion is controlled locally, but the large volumes of inspection data collected by the sensors need to be transferred wirelessly. That is where the Beyond 5G’s high bandwidth and reliability become valuable.” – Nithish Kumar
It’s a practical example of how reliable wireless connectivity can enable smarter, and in the future more flexible, industrial processes. More information about the developments of the wireless factory at the TU Delft Campus?
